koi

This is a series of painting I did during my residency at The Vermont Studio Center.

They are all pastels on paper.

During my residency I wanted to learn a new medium and consentrated on teaching myself how to paint with pastels.

I chose the koi pond as my subject matter. It was a subject that was very familiar to me and also I find water an interesting subject.

It has depth, color, light, shadow, movement, it can be opaque or translusent.
